David Lawrence Root received a Pre-Medicine Bachelor of Science Degree in 1971 from California State College, just before being drafted into the Armed Forces during the Viet Nam War. While serving in the Air Force, he received an Associates Degree in Cardiopulmonary Technology from the Community College of the Air Force, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in HealthCare Administration from Southern Illinois University in 1984. He then completed a Master’s of HealthCare Administration from the University of Southern California in 1988. His military work experience included such varied assignments as Hospital Medic, Combat Medic, Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Supervisor, USAF Master Technical Instructor of Cardiopulmonary Technology, Superintendent of Cardiopulmonary Services at the Air Force Academy, and Assistant Judo Coach with the USAF Academy Judo Club. The author of several Air Force technical manuals on cardiac procedures, pulmonary functions, and cardiac rehabilitation, he is also multiple award winner in his field. He finished his highly decorated Air Force career in 1997 as Superintendent of Medical Services at the USAF Regional Medical Center at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Upon his return to Colorado, Dave served as a Judo Instructor (4th Degree Black Belt – YoDan) at The National Judo Institute in Colorado Springs. Since his retirement from the Air Force, he has also worked for Qual Med as a Senior Business Analyst, Community Health Centers as The Clinics Administrator, Air Academy District 20 as an Educator, and at his current position of Practice Administrator for Asthma & Allergy Associates, PC and Research Center. A member of the National Medical Group Management Association and an active member of the Colorado chapter of MGMA, Dave is also a Fellow of the American College of HealthCare Executives. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking in the mountains, camping, fishing, reading, tinkering with his sport’s car, and teaching youngsters the gentle martial art of Judo.
